About this event

Live Music

Rochester native and Eastman alumna Annie Jacobs-Perkins performs Schumann’s Cello Concerto, guided by conductor Kensho Watanabe. Kevin Puts’ Virelai, inspired by medieval poet Guillaume de Machaut, opens with bright textures and lively rhythms. Schumann’s concerto is lyrical and intimate, with the cello leading a conversation with the orchestra. The program closes with Sibelius’ Symphony No. 1, full of sweeping melodies and dramatic energy. Audiences will enjoy the mix of solo artistry and orchestral power, experiencing both expressive storytelling and dynamic musical contrasts. Annie grew up in Rochester and studied with former RPO Assistant Principal Cellist Kathleen Murphy Kemp at the Hochstein School of Music and Dance (age 5-17). She was a part of the Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra for five years and remembers sectionals with many members of the cello section–it is really one of Annie’s dreams to come home and play with the orchestra that raised her.
